Varicose Vein/Venous Insufficiency

Varicose veins are enlarged, swollen veins that rise above the surface of the skin. They are caused by a condition called venous insufficiency, which means that the valves that prevent blood from flowing backward become weak and allow blood to pool in the vein.

Varicose veins can be the result of heredity (family history), prolonged standing, sun exposure hormone changes or your weight. They can be very painful and delaying treatment can lead to more serious complications such as inflammation, blood clots, skin ulcers, bleeding and deep vein thrombosis.

When varicose veins become painful or cause discomfort, and if conservative treatment isn’t working, endovenous therapy is now the preferred treatment recommended by medical professionals. It is a safe and highly effective procedure.
